Since 2022, the national epidemic situation has been serious and complicated, and the epidemic prevention and control in Wuhan are gradually intensifying. In this situation, all Wuhan people need to work together to fight against the epidemic. The campus community, where students gather, is crucial to epidemic prevention and control. In order to respond to the call of the Wuhan City Novel Coronavirus Prevention and Control Command Center and to relieve the pressure of the epidemic prevention and control work in ZUEL community, SBA set up an epidemic commando team and organized several undergraduate volunteers to assist the community in epidemic prevention work such as stamping on testing cards and epidemiological investigation.
Young students work together in fighting against the coronavirus epidemic. On March 8, 2022, Chen Lianlian, Du Yuheng, Wei Yanyan and Li Jingdu, four undergraduates of the 21st grade, volunteered to work in the ZUEL community on Shouyi Road to carry out the work of epidemic prevention and control. Although the repetitive work of stamping on testing cards was a bit boring, the volunteers worked hard and stayed at their posts, stamping more than 5,000 testing cards in over three hours, which helped the community nucleic acid testing work proceed smoothly the next day.
On April 17, eight students, including Li Jingdu, Wang Mengxuan, Chen Lianlian, Du Yuheng, Zhu Yiqing, Zhou Jiawen, Wei Fanchao and Yang Yijun, went to the office of ZUEL Resident Committee to help with the epidemiological investigation. The volunteers worked in pairs and cooperated with each other to conduct telephone interviews and information registration in an orderly manner. They communicated with the interviewees in a cordial manner with the attitude of “being careful, patient and enthusiastic”. During the investigation, the volunteers encountered doubts and misunderstandings, but they kept their enthusiasm and ran with the virus. Wang Mengxuan said, “Although I am engaged in some specific and small work, I believe that the small acts of thousands of volunteers full of love will definitely converge into a flood of victory over the epidemic.” According to statistics, the volunteers of SBA have made a total of more than 300 telephone investigations, further playing an important role of young college students in the epidemic prevention and control and building a safe barrier for the lives and health of the public.
The activity showed the determination of the commando team to fight against the epidemic and built a firm campus line of defense against the epidemic, which got the affirmation and thanks of the community staff and the public. At the same time, it has inspired the college students to take the initiative to fight against the epidemic, shoulder the responsibility of the times, practice the spirit of volunteerism and the Spirit of May Fourth Movement with simple actions and show youthful vibrancy.
