Introduction:
Research Center for Rural Revitalization of ZUEL(the Center), established in December 2017, is a research institution early engaged in the theories, policies and practical issues of rural revitalization in China. Inspired by the mission of serving the national rural revitalization strategy, the major needs of the country and the frontier of agricultural and rural development, the Center strives to become a leading and first-class research area for rural revitalization in central China, an ideological field that contributes new ideas to rural development and serves the local economy, a training base to cultivate talents for rural revitalization and cadres in agriculture, rural areas and farmers, and an exchange field that gathers social forces and displays high-quality results. It focuses on theories and policies of rural revitalization, rural revitalization and poverty governance, rural revitalization and urban-rural integrated development, planning and application on rural revitalization, etc.
Since its establishment, the Center has achieved remarkable results in scientific research, personnel training, and social services. First, it has managed major key projects, demonstrating its responsibilities for rural revitalization. For example, Professor Wu Haitao managed a key program in 2019 supported by National Social Science Foundation named “Research on Multidimensional Identification and Collaborative Governance of China’s Relative Poverty”, and Professor Chen Chibo managed a key program in 2015 supported by National Social Science Foundation named “Research on Assessment and Optimization of Policies Implementation for Supporting Agricultural under the New Normal” and won the excellent prize. Second, it has actively offered suggestions, contributing to rural revitalization. In April 2022, Professor Chen Chibo was invited to a symposium for experts and scholars hosted by Wang Zhonglin, Governor of Hubei Province. He made specific suggestions on how to strike a balance between high-quality development and low-carbon development, how to make effective combination between consolidation of poverty alleviation achievements and comprehensive promotion of rural revitalization, and how to narrow the gap between urban and rural areas to promote common prosperity, which were fully affirmed by Governor Wang Zhonglin. Third, it has published high-level papers, boosting the development of first-class disciplines. Focused on issues such as rural revitalization, poverty governance, industrial integration, policy support, as well as resources and environment, the Center has published many high-quality papers in high-level authoritative journals, including Social Sciences in China, Scientia Agricultura Sinica, Chinese Rural Economy, Issues in Agricultural Economy, Economic Management Journal, China Population, Resources and Environment, and Reform. Fourth, it has encouraged rural talents for rural revitalization to promote the integrated development of urban and rural areas. Base construction and field research have further strengthened students’ extracurricular practice, laying a solid foundation for cultivating a team that understands agriculture and loves rural areas and farmers, and the revitalization of rural talents.
